The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is one of the toughest universities to get into in America, and with a very competitive admissions process, you’re going to have to show what you’re worth before you are even the slightest bit considered. The pressure of standing out among a sea of applicants can be tremendous. In order to be considered, you have to demonstrate your capacity to contribute to the progression of different fields such as mathematics, science, and technology. You must also be able to use whatever you have learned in a larger scope and apply them to todays social processes. Theres no reason why you shouldn’t start preparing for MIT in high school. As a matter of fact, the earlier you prepare, the better. If you’re planning to get into the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, you may want to know what requirements will be asked of you. Coursework Pre-requisites

As mentioned, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is a very competitive university, and if you want to fulfill their requirements, you can start by taking upper level mathematics and science classes such as chemistry, physics and calculus. MIT has very specific coursework requirements. Among these requirements are at least four years of taking mathematics, science, and English. You should also have at least two years of social studies, foreign language, and history in your experience. During the application process, you will be asked to submit you high schools official transcript.

The Creation of an MIT Account

Massachusetts Institute of Technology requires all their students to create an account in the MIT website prior to application. After creating a MyMIT account, you will be asked to complete an online application that includes some personal information. Be ready to give out your educational background and your biography. You will be able to check out the progress of your application online as well. Try to be as accurate as possible with the information you provide in your application form. Every bit of detail you provide will be questioned for authenticity, so be as truthful about your information as possible.

Dual Essays

Students who plan to get into the Massachusetts Institute of Technology should be ready to compose two essays of varying topics. First, potential students will be asked to write a brief essay that’s related to the particular field of study they’re planning to get into. The second essay question is a requirement that will be given along with the general applications. The length of this essay is 500 words, and the questions written on the application varies every year.

The Test

Just like any other university or college, Massachusetts Institute of Technology will you require their students to submit the results of their high school standardized tests. Without these test scores, the application or the school transcripts submitted will not be considered official. MIT sets no particular score requirements on all of their students, but you may want to know the average test scores of students who actually made it into MIT. Potential MIT students have SAT scores of 730 to 800 on their Reasoning Test Math and you 660 to 800 on their Reasoning Test Critical. SATs must be taken six weeks prior to the deadline of the application in order to be accepted.

High School Forms

Massachusetts Institute of Technology requires their potential students to collect a variety of forms from their guidance counselors, principals, and teachers in college in order to be considered. The student must be able to collect specific documents from one science or math teacher and one teacher from the humanities. These teachers must be able to submit teacher evaluations with regards to the childs conduct. Guidance counselors or principals should also be asked to produce a secondary school report form attached to you recommendation letter, and a mid-year grade report form. These documents can be collected after the potential MIT student finishes the fall semester of their last year in high school. You may be able to see copies and formats of these form in the website. A Portfolio

Massachusetts Institute of Technology also requires students who are trying to get into the arts and music program to submit a copy of their portfolios to the necessary departments in order to meet the college requirements. Be wary that every department in MIT has different requirements, so you may need to go to the respective website of the particular department in order to determine what you need to submit. The department will ask of you to complete you a variety of application packets which will include your name, date of birth, and the title Undergraduate Application Materials written on the envelope.

Increasing Your Chances of Being Accepted

It can be tough to get into the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, but there are a variety of ways to strengthen your chances of being accepted. First off, you must consider taking advanced science and math classes in your high school years. MIT requires most of their potential students to have taken chemistry, physics, biology, and a variety of mathematics courses including calculus. It is not enough to take these subjects, you also have to be good at them. Being active in your high schools extra-curricular activities will also improve your chances. Make sure to select extra-curricular activities that you are passionate about. You don’t have to join the Academic Decathlon if you think its too much pressure. If you lean more on the arts, try singing or acting. MIT recognizes this as well. Also, try your best to compete in Science Olympiads or natural science fairs. The point of joining these competitions is to be able to demonstrate your passion for mathematics and science.

As mentioned above, make sure you complete all the standardized tests required in high school, and make sure you pass them as well. Though you don’t need to get a high score, just acing these tests will already set you apart from the rest. Make sure you collect all the necessary materials before the deadline arrives!
